The History Museum in Gabrovo is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the town, a direct successor of the museum established in 1883 at the Aprilov High School. In 2006 it was declared a regional museum and with over 100 000 artifacts in its collections. The building which houses the Museum today was built by arch. Nikola Lazarov. Over the years it served residential and commercial functions before becoming a branch of the Bulgarian National Bank. Today it is an architectural and historical cultural monument of national importance.
In 2020 the Museum received funding for restoration of the building, including repairs of the roof construction, replacement of the window frames, exterior and interior repainting as well as renovation of the exhibition spaces on the first and second floors. After the project launch I was invited to design the permanent exhibition of the Museum consisting of eight exhibition spaces with a fixed number of furniture elements. In addition to the assignment I developed a scenography project as well as a gift shop proposal.
